Decanting neutraliser into a spray bottle can often be a painful and cumbersome process. NC500 Neutraliser is now supplied ready-filled in 750ml spray bottles, sold in packs of six, which takes that step out of the process entirely.
What has changed
NC500 has always been available in bulk containers, and it still is — the jerry cans are not going anywhere. What is new is that it now comes bottled and ready to use: a 750ml trigger spray bottle, filled, sold six to a pack. Simply open the box and use them. No decanting, no funnel, no spillage.
Why decanting was the weak link
Decanting is one of those tasks that looks trivial and causes a disproportionate amount of trouble. It takes time at the start of a shift when nobody has any. It spills, and neutraliser on the floor is neutraliser not on the weld. Bottles get filled from whatever container is closest and end up unlabelled, which is a genuine problem the moment anyone asks a COSHH question. And a bottle that has been refilled three times with three different things is a contamination risk in a process where clean application is the whole point.
A reminder of what NC500 actually does
NC500 is a water-based neutraliser, designed for use after cleaning with NC15, NC50 or NC75. Its job is to neutralise and remove the acid residue left behind by weld cleaning fluid, degrease the surface, and prevent the white staining that appears when that residue is left to keep reacting.
Using it properly
The sequence is short and worth following exactly. Wipe away the excess weld cleaning acid residue first — never apply neutraliser over a surface that still has fluid residue on it. Spray NC500 on the treated area. Wipe it away with a clean cloth or paper towel, and make sure it is genuinely clean; a contaminated cloth will leave the very white marks you are trying to remove. Spray down with deionised water and polish with NitroClean Stainless Steel Cleaner for the best result.
